Versus was founded in 2021. This is a new interdisciplinary journal that reflects the particular condition of modern knowledge grouped around various fields and subjects. Combining the efforts of representatives from different disciplines in social sciences and the humanities – from philosophy, literature and art criticism to anthropology, economics, political theory and research in science and technology – allows us to initiate and promote an up-to-date and critically oriented conversation on the study of socio-cultural phenomena, practises and institutions.
Broad in its thematic scope and international in its foundations, Versus addresses both the most acute problems of our time in the field of culture, society and politics, and provokes discussion on rethinking the theoretical and methodological canon in the social sciences and humanities. While not being associated with any particular school of thought, Versus serves as an attractive forum for the promotion of new knowledge and the exchange of fresh ideas between representatives of various disciplines in the process of studying a common subject (democracy and inequality, scientometry, the anti-vaxxer movement, the poetics of economic reason and the anthropology of time...).
Versus does not adhere to any one theoretical position and is not limited to articles of a certain type. Versus supports publications marked by debate and novelty, it values the atmosphere of creative exploration and the free presentation of ideas. At the same time, significant achievements and familiarity with new concepts and scientific movements can be accompanied by methodological accuracy and rigour in a balanced, consolidated approach. Special attention is paid to the translation of classic works of socio-humanitarian thought, as well as contemporary authors working in the most promising and areas and with the most relevant subject matter in the humanities and social sciences.
