Право на взгляд

Право на взгляд утверждает независимость – не индивидуализм или вуайеризм, но претензию на политическую субъективность и коллективность. Оно подразумевает обмен, но не прибыль. Это означает, что требуется признать другого, чтобы получить отправную точку, исходя из которой можно заявлять о правах и решать, что именно правильно. Именно претензия на субъективность обладает свободой выстраивать отношения видимого и произносимого. Противоположностью права на взгляд выступает при этом не цензура, а визуальность, власть, диктующая, на что можно или нельзя смотреть. Термин «визуальность» восходит к началу XIX века, когда он означал визуализацию истории. Способность собирать материал для визуализации свидетельствует о власти визуализатора. В свою очередь, овладение властью требует постоянного обновления, чтобы получить признание как нечто «нормальное» и повседневное, так как оно всегда заведомо оспаривается. Таким образом, независимость, утверждаемая правом на взгляд, противостоит авторитету визуальности. В статье выделяются и анализируются три первичных комплекса визуальности и контрвизуальности: комплекс плантационного хозяйства, поддерживавший трансатлантическую работорговлю; то, что отдельные апологеты Британской империи воспринимали как имперский комплекс; и то, что президент Дуайт Эйзенхауэр обозначил как военно-промышленный комплекс, во многих отношениях сохраняющийся и сейчас. Под комплексом при этом подразумевается формирование ряда социальных организаций и процессов, а также состояние психической системы индивида. Каждый комплекс обладает масштабом и устойчивостью, формируя особый мир, который может быть как объектом визуализации, так и средой обитания.
